We’re building more than boards, we’re building a culture. A world rooted in adventure, art, and nature, and the relentless pursuit of ideas and designs that spark wonder and push you to explore further. From handcrafted snowboards to limited-edition gear and wild creative projects like Cardboard Chaos, SIGNAL is becoming a year-round, adventure-forward brand fueled by curiosity, craft, and community. Today, we’re proud to drop a new collaboration of ideas: SIGNAL x Vans x Ernest Packaging.
Building wild things is in our DNA. From our roots in the mountains to the madness of Every Third Thursday, we’ve always chased the power of curiosity, craft, and creative risk. That same spirit fuels Cardboard Chaos, our playground for pushing limits, ditching rules, and breaking out of the boundaries of snowboarding to explore creativity in all directions. So when the idea landed to build a fully skateable Vans Classic Slip-On out of cardboard, we didn’t hesitate.
Built with Vans, Ernest Packaging & Skateboarding Royalty. The soul of this project is collaboration. Vans has been customizing and remixing shoes since day one, but what truly sets this apart is Steve Van Doren, one of the OG’s of the Vans family, who’s always down to say yes to wild ideas. So when Steve gave the green light to go full cardboard, we knew we had to show up and deliver something next level. Enter the creatives of chaos at Ernest Packaging. If you’ve seen the Cardboard Fender Guitar or Cardboard Drums, you know they come correct. Ernest’s own Mike Martinez brought structure, style, and skate-worthy durability to a shoe made entirely of cardboard. We traveled to Vietnam to build them. Flew back to California and then handed them over to skateboarding royalty - Christian Hosoi, Omar Hassan, Tony Alva, and Lizzie Armanto. They sized up, slipped ’em on, and dropped in, blowing minds and shattering expectations. You’ll see it the second they start skating. It’s unreal.photo: Deville
