Ben Pepper’s liquid, figurative style was formed somewhere amongst the suburbs of Manchester. At 27 years old Ben cut short his uni career and went back across the Pennines to develop his skills in his native city, working primarily in pen and ink as a graphic illustrator. Having earned his stripes designing flyers for the Manchester club scene and producing illustrations for the UK snowboard mags, he turned his attention to founding ‘Ink Tank’, an eclectic mix of young British artists that showcase their work online and at regular exhibitions, as well as collaborating on an annual publication.
As part of this group Ben has worked on a variety of projects, including commissions for Adidas Originals and the recent Sneaker Pimps World Tour – though whatever the canvas his organic approach remains the same: his lines grow naturally across the space available like some crazy russian vine, taking inspiration from Hockney, urban art and animation.
The Ink Tank community continues to expand, and with Onboard’s help Ben is now hoping to recruit fresh talent from across the continent. Now 27, he is currently to be found his mooching around Manchester thinking of new creatures to create. More of his work and information about Ink Tank can be found at www.inktank.nu.
