Aluminum base
Back in the late 80's early 90's, Jeff Wiig was building aluminum base snowboards for the boys in Big Bear under the name Wiig-Out or something like that. They were surprisingly lightweight and noticeably faster than P-Tex bases.

You could have used a sheet EL (Electro Luminescent) and it would have been easier to wire.
